The article says that in 1573 Amsterdam was under Spanish occupation. So-so. I might say that in 1573 Amsterdam was willingly in league with the Spanish troops and provided them with a fleet (the king of Spain happened to be the duke of Burgundy, or viceversa).Haarlem and Amsterdam were rival towns, and the fleet of Amsterdam took part in the siege of Haarlem and in the naval battle of Haarlemmermeer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.8.98.118 ( talk) 11:09, 26 January 2010 (UTC) reply
