Balance

This article seems like it was written by the Baskin Robbins p.r. team. It should be more balanced. Aaronproot

Yeah, they should also clarify that the termination of BR franchise agreements was after a succession of execs with little or no food service experience (and none in frozen desserts) rotated through the corporate management structure in a continuous revolving door manner, mismanaging the firm as they went and leaving the non-coastal regions of the country to languish with no support, especially advertising, while continually raising fees, product costs and cheapening the product with cuts in the quality of ingredients and butterfat content in the product. Of course, Wikipedia will never be able to get that side of the story supported with hard documentation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.215.63.109 ( talk) 05:50, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

There isn't a single store in Iceland called "Millie's", let alone "Millie's cookies store" - I haven't seen anything related to Baskin-Robbins in any stores here in Iceland, ever. At the time of my edit, I even checked their corporate website, there wasn't a single mention of Iceland —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.208.155.143 ( talk) 10:49, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Btw, there are loads of Baskin-Robbins outlets in the United Arab Emirates! It's not included in the list 86.99.61.127 ( talk) 21:37, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

- I don't think the country list is correct: the corporate website lists much fewer countries with stores. For instance, there definitely isn't a Baskin&Robbins in Hungary or Austria, and I guess that is true most of the other European countries (exluding UK of course). 31 or 21 Original Flavors Contradiction

According to the Original 31 Flavors section, there were 31 flavors when store opened in 1945, but the main article says it only had 21 flavors when it opened and the ad campaign advertising 31 flavors didn't come about until 1953. JasonThePirate 21:41, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Cleared. At the beginning it was Snowbird Ice Cream and Burt's Ice Cream Shop, the former which had 21 flavors, and was founded in 1945, the later founded in 1946. When they merged into Baskin-Robbins, they had 31 flavors. So Baskin-Robbins had 31 flavors from the very beginning (1953). I'm also fixing the store founding years, as it wasn't founded in 1945, it was founded in 1953. MEEEEEEEEE! ( talk) 05:55, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

All the spoons are bright pink. Probably the best plastic spoons of any food chain, since they have to be heavy duty enough to dig into a fairly solid scoop of ice cream - if you go to other ice cream shops, the spoons are flimsy and tend to bend or snap off, but a BR spoon seldom does. They also have tiny pink spoons that they give a very small sample to customers to allow them to taste the flavors before buying. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.215.151.212 ( talk) 10:03, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

Germany

I remember a Baskin-Robbins shop near the Barbarossaplatz (Barbarossa Square) in Cologne, but it disappeared many years ago. The Baskin-Robbins website doesn't list Germany. Greece

The Baskin Robbins website claims that there are stores in Greece, but the last couple of times we visited Athens we couldn't find the one that had been there years ago. The people on this website say they haven't seen one in Greece now for several years, and if anyone knows, it should be them. Seems like the BR website hasn't been updated for quite some time, or they just like to pretend having stores in as many countries as possible. -- Anna ( talk) 15:01, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

Someone recently added a new link to the international locations (thanks!). Unfortunately, this new website seems as unprecise as ever. They still claim to have locations in Greece, but apparently Baskin Robbins is keeping the whereabouts of these locations a business secret. -- Anna ( talk) 09:35, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Countries again

The list of countries had grown very long, to include a majority of the world's countries. https://www.baskinrobbins.com/content/baskinrobbins/en/aboutus/international.html lists a much smaller number of countries (there are also some Middle-Eastern countries listed on http://www.baskinrobbinsmea.com/find-a-store/default.aspx ), and I have removed all countries that don't appear on the company website; I suspect their inclusion is simply drive-by vandalism. The company page has to be the most authoritative source on this particular issue, even though it does refer to South Korea as "Korea", embarrassingly enough. -- bonadea contributions talk 09:59, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Dhaka

I included Bangladesh in the Baskin-Robbins page. As I visited Baskin-Robbins of Dhaka a few times I thought it is just missing from the article. After it was deleted i checked the homepage and there is no mention of this outlet in the website of Baskin-Robbins. But is written in the Wikipedia article for Dhaka City( Dhaka#Culture) and can be found about its location in many sites on the internet.

As the outlet is not mentioned in Baskin-Robbins' home page, I'm not putting my changes back. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Saqib iba ( talkcontribs) 20:22, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Country-of-the-month

Instead of trying to maintain a current list of countries, which can change on a monthly (or weekly) basis, how about simply stating something like:

As of June 2012, there are [Xn] locations in [Xs] states, and [Yn] in [Yc] countries worldwide. [1]

IMO, no list is better than an inaccurate list; so, unless somebody is willing to maintain (and cite) an up-to-date list... ~ BTW, as of June 2012, the latest "Country-of-the-month" is Vietnam (see link above).

International locations

The list of international locations seems to be a constant problem and certainly requires some updating at this point. As I don't seem to be able to edit the page, not being logged in, could someone fix this please?
Their current list does not include Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Denmark, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Maldives, Mauritius, Nepal, Oman, the Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, St. Maarten, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates.
Oh yes, and could someone please make that "South Korea"? I think we may safely assume that they do not have store locations in North Korea, even if they - embarrassingly enough - don't differentiate on their website.

Also, I really don't see how this list should add up to the claim of "over 50 countries". Whichever way I count, I come up with no more than approximately 30 countries. Not sure what they mean by "Middle East", but whatever, it's not going to make another 20 countries. Plus, they list several Middle East countries individually, so we would probably be counting these twice.
Since the claim that "Baskin-Robbins® has nearly 7,300 store locations in over 50 countries outside the US" comes directly from their website and is quite obviously not correct concerning those 50 countries, I also seriously doubt those 7,300 store locations. I'd really like to see some reliable source for these claims outside of their company website.
These numbers would mean that each of those 30 or so countries would have to have about 240 stores on the average. Does even Canada have that many? I would assume that most of these countries have no more than two or three stores in their capital or some other major city, so that would mean Canada and a few others would actually have to have thousands of stores. That does not seem very probable.

On a more personal note, I have been seriously wondering if Baskin Robbins is going out of business. They did use to have stores in several countries in Europe, but I haven't seen any for years. And even in the United States, following our GPS to an alleged Baskin Robbins location has invariably led us to Dunkin' Donuts locations in more recent years. In my memory, there used to be a store on every corner, and now, there's like three locations in a place like the greater Boston area. Anyone have any information or possibly even citable sources on this? In 2013, there also seems to have been some talk about them expanding to several countries, but so far, I haven't seen any of that actually happening. -- 50.241.123.197 ( talk) 02:20, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

Looked for another store location (one of those meager three locations supposed to be in the greater Boston area) in vain yesterday. Are there ANY left at all? I am seriously starting to doubt it. Haven't seen a single one on our trip, and I sure have looked out for them. What's the matter? Anyone have any better information than the boastful claims on the company website?
We should at least reconsider the article's opening line, which states that "Baskin-Robbins is the world's largest chain of ice cream specialty shops" and is supported by no sources whatsoever. I do not consider the company website a valid source for claims like this. -- 50.241.123.197 ( talk) 13:40, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
The article explains that Baskin-Robbins and Dunkin Donuts are owned by the same entity, so it's not surprising that going to B-R locations ends up with you at a DD location. Looking at their website, they claim a presence in the Middle East in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Qatar, and Bahrain, with something like 20 in each of SA, Qatar, and UAE, but only one in Muscat for all of Oman. But you're right that their own website might not really be a reliable source, and there should be something in the business press about them to use as references. Argyriou (talk) 19:27, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
Hi, we have not been able to find any B-R locations during our East Coast vacation either. I know they have merged with DD, and we would not have been surprised to see combined ice cream and donut shops (as we have on previous vacations), but this time we could not find any B-R shops at all. This does make me wonder if there really are any B-R left at all. -- Anna C. ( talk) 19:43, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

Do they still exist?

Just wondering... is there any evidence that they even exist any more?

Their website appears to be completely dead, the questions about their existence above haven't been answered since 2015, and all those unsourced claims and superlatives in the article remain as unsourced as they have been for years. What's going on? -- Anna C. ( talk) 18:20, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

Yeah, so do they still have locations around? Haven't seen any for years. Their website seems to keep the locations a big secret too.
BTW, lots of sections of this talk page seem to have disappeared into an archive, but there's no archive link anywhere to be found. This includes a lot of issues with the article that have NOT been fixed. As to if the chain is still around: I just went to the company website (working as it should, by the way) and used the store locator which functioned as intended and found a shop within 2 miles of me. I knew it was there, but thought to check to see if it was still in operation. I know that in my area, Central Iowa, there has been a reduction of stores compared to the mid 70s. We have a fairly strong presence of other chains, mainly Dairy Queen and other local shops that have ice cream as a main focus, while not the same as BR, they do offer a related product. The reduction in stores could be due to the various changes in ownership of the chain itself. THX1136 ( talk) 12:45, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

Sources and Claims

O.k., I just had a closer look at that one meagre source ( #4) which is supposed to support the claim "... with 7,500 locations, including nearly 2,500 shops in the United States and over 5,000 in other countries as of December 28, 2013".

Fact is, I cannot find ANYTHING at all on that website about 7,500 locations or 2,500 in the United states. What I can find is a table which claims that B-R has 1,065 restaurants in South Korea, 1,157 in Japan, and 706 in the "Middle East".

This website also says "2,467 U.S. points of distribution". Note that it does not say "restaurants" but "points of distribution" which might include places like supermarkets.

The number of international store locations is supported by a WEBARCHIVE version of the company website, can you believe it? This is ridiculous! The company website, for obvious reasons, is not a good source in the first place, and a webarchived version, of all things!

Another main point of criticism that has apparently been shoved into some secret archive from the talk page is the fact that parts of this article read like a company ad. Why on earth do we need to tell our readers what the company crystal ball said back in 2014 about how many restaurants they were going to open, and how much more successful they have actually been? -- 87.150.7.232 ( talk) 23:16, 10 February 2019 (UTC)

BRight Choices

Hello! My name is Emily and I'm the Senior Public Relations Coordinator for Dunkin' Brands (the parent company of Baskin-Robbins). As stated on my profile, I've made this account to work with Wikipedia's editing community to update the Dunkin' Brands, Baskin-Robbins, and Dunkin' Donuts articles. I'll rely on volunteers to review proposed changes rather than editing the articles myself, and of course editors can contact me directly with questions.

I see several problems with the current Baskin-Robbins article. I'd like to start with what I believe is a noncontroversial request to improve wording about the company's "BRight Choices" products. Right now the article says, "In 2008, Baskin-Robbins launched its first full menu of better-for-you frozen treats called "BRight Choices" and removed all artificial trans fats from its ice cream. BRight Choices provides a variety of options for guests looking for a lighter treat."

I think Wikipedia editors would prefer more neutral wording than "better-for-you" and "looking for a lighter treat". I propose replacing this text with the following, which more accurately represents sourcing and actually describes the product overhaul: "In 2008, Baskin-Robbins launched a full menu of frozen desserts called "BRight Choices". These included frozen yogurt, reduced-fat ice cream, no sugar added ice cream and dairy-free ice cream flavors."

Here's a link to another source, if this is helpful for editors to review and use to update the article. I'd like to think editors would agree that this language is more accurate and helpful to readers, but not overly detailed or promotional. I'm not going to update the wording myself because of my conflict of interest, and I'm hoping someone watching this page will review and update the article for me. Thanks for your consideration, EC at Dunkin' Brands ( talk) 21:07, 17 October 2019 (UTC)

Updating the number of flavors

Hello again! I'd like to submit another request to update the article. Currently the top of the article says, "The company has introduced more than 1,000 flavors since 1945", per this source. Baskin-Robbins has actually introduced more than 1,300 flavors since 1945, as evidenced by the same source and others, such as this ABC News article. Would someone mind changing 1,000 to 1,300 on my behalf to make the article more accurate? Thanks! EC at Dunkin' Brands ( talk) 15:43, 9 December 2019 (UTC)

@ BoringJim: Thank you for updating the number of flavors. Would you be willing to change "plant-based" to "vegan and non-dairy"? "Plant-based flavors" kind of suggests flavors which taste like plants, and I think more readers would be familiar with vegan and non- dairy ( source, source). Thanks for considering, EC at Dunkin' Brands ( talk) 21:22, 17 December 2019 (UTC)

Support merge on the grounds that the Australian page doesn't have sufficient independent notability from the worldwide page, and that much of the material there relates to US rather than Australian services. Updates to History

@ Klbrain and THX1136: Thank you both for reviewing the above request and getting the page updated.

I've noticed the article's History section has not really been updated since 2014. I'd like editors to consider adding the following text and sources, which confirm some major recent company updates: "Baskin-Robbins began testing a new store format featuring state of the art display cases, original artwork, as well as new product offerings, in late 2018. The "Moments" concept was first showcased in Fresno, California, followed by El Paso, Texas. [1] [2] In 2019, Baskin-Robbins introduced two non-dairy and vegan flavors, a non-dairy cookie dough flavor and a non-dairy chocolate flavor. [3] [4]"

EC at Dunkin' Brands: You might already be aware, but just so you know, if an edit request isn't getting a response for a while, you can try adding "{{ request edit}}" to the section where your comment is. That will add it to a list of open requests that are actively patrolled, without relying on people happening to look at the talk page. (See also WP:COIREQ; WP:ER.) Balance

At the time of my edit, I even checked their corporate website, there wasn't a single mention of Iceland —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.208.155.143 ( talk) 10:49, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

@ Klbrain and THX1136: Since you've participated in discussion above, I wonder if you might be able to review this request? Thanks for any feedback or article updating in advance. EC at Dunkin' Brands ( talk) 20:10, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
Agree that that change makes it 'less promotional'; happily changed. Klbrain ( talk) 22:17, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
Concur. Well done KLbrain! THX1136 ( talk) 00:42, 29 October 2019 (UTC)

Merger proposal

There is no reason to have a Baskin-Robbins Australia article. There are two sourced lines in the article that are specific to Australia. This should be a sub-heading inside the Baskin-Robbins page at most. -- Elisfkc ( talk) 19:30, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

This is a valid suggestion but does it have significance in the Australia Portal?-- NorthBond ( talk) 20:10, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
Support merge on the grounds that the Australian page doesn't have sufficient independent notability from the worldwide page, and that much of the material there relates to US rather than Australian services. There is no impact on template:Food chains in Australia, as the redirect which will be left on Baskin-Robbins Australia post-merge can link to an Australian section on Baskin-Robbins without affecting the template.

Like the above request, I'd like to think this is a noncontroversial update with appropriate sources and neutral wording. I'm hoping User:Klbrain, User:THX1136, or another editor will review and update the page on my behalf. Thanks again! EC at Dunkin' Brands ( talk) 19:51, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

@ BoringJim: I see you've updated the article recently. My first edit request above was reviewed and accepted, but so far no one has reviewed this request. Would you be willing to review and update the article on my behalf? Thanks! EC at Dunkin' Brands ( talk) 17:40, 9 December 2019 (UTC)
(See also WP:COIREQ; WP:ER.)
