Giertych a "former dissident"? What?! He was collaborating with the communist gen. Wojciech Jaruzelski in the so-called Advisory Council in the late 1980-ies. He was also a supporter of Polish-Soviet cooperation through the Warsaw Pact (in 1990!!!).
The list says "(on September 14, Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz announced his resignation)" This is unclear. What did he resign from? I presume that he sesigned from the chairmanship of the Sejm, not his candidacy for President? Can somebody who knows something about this please clarify?) Adz 01:02, 15 September 2005 (UTC)
He is dead. 20:02, 24 September 2005 (UTC)
At the beginning I'd like to sorry for any mistakes but English is my second language. I live in Poland and I've been very interested in the election therefore I can share with you some information at this point.
Cimoszewicz resigned after accusations of being unhonest when declaring his possesions (he had a quite large number of Orlen's (Polish petrol company) shares, which he hasn't included in his possesion declaration). His foremer assistent, Izabela Jarucka was trying to blackmail him in orderd to receive privilidges for her husbend (at the time , Cimoszewicz was a Former Affairs Secretery and Mr. Jarucki was working in Cimoszewicz's department).
It's a long story actually. You've probably not heard, that Cimoszewicz hadn't been very willing to take a part in the election race. Finally, Aleksander Kwasniewski, the foremer president, has conviced him to that. Altough he agreed, he seemed not to enjoy it at all. After first signs of black campaign he resigned.
The most common opinion here is that he wasn't prepared for next attacks. The official Cimoszewicz's statemnt was that he resigned because his family was publicly attacked (the scandal with Orlen's shares brought his daughter into evening news).
Hope it's helpful.
What's the "[discuss] – [edit]" thing I see in the Summary section? I think the "discuss" thing is out of place. However, I can't work out where it's coming from.-- 81.157.177.90 23:17, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
