The section "Observations & Discoveries" currently gives the impression that XXM-Newton has observed three objects during nine years of operations. Some more general statements on the achievements of the observatory is called for. / 216Kleopatra ( talk) 09:49, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
For such a long and successful mission/craft the article could be expanded and reorganised. There's lots of good info at the external links, eg the eccentric orbit to avoid radiation belts, comparing data during slewing with the ROSAT RASS, real time transmission of data rather than on-board storage. Any info on how long it typically observes each target ? Rod57 ( talk) 14:58, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
I've proposed that this article be included in a trial involving using a bot to update orbital elements automatically on a fortnightly basis. I've started a discussion at WikiProject Spaceflight regarding this article and nine others, and would welcome some input from the users involved in maintaining the pages in question. -- W. D. What surveys does it do or how is the observation programme run ? Has it done any all-sky surveys ? How far ahead are observations planned ? - Rod57 ( talk) 14:58, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
User:Huntster I'd like to revert clarify the use of italics
[1] for the name. As XMM is an abbreviation (of the mission name), I would leave it without. I note
Voyager 1 ,
Voyager 2 has italics (and the
Voyager program doesn't), but none of these
List of X-ray space telescopes use italics, so I'm looking for a reason to keep it, and if we keep it, the current title should use italics to match.

It mentions cooling, and that radiators are involved, and that there is a two-stage system. Is liquid/gas coolant pumped around or is it all passive. Any phase change ? Presumably there are no cryogens that are being lost. How much colder could the sensors be cooled if desired ? - Rod57 ( talk) 14:57, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
