"Notable Knabe Testimonials"???? This article is a press release. OrionClemens ( talk) 15:24, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
True. I questioned this so went and looked it up. Even though I was born and educated in the South, I didn't recall Maryland being a Southern State. The article Confederate States of America, and another article online, made it clear to me that Maryland was indeed below the Mason-Dixon line ( map) and was a slave-state; however, Maryland was prevented from seceding from the Union and was not a part of the Confederacy. What I also gleaned from the original source material ( in text version or PDF reproduction) was that in 1853 the public thinking was already attuned to a division of Northern States and Southern states.
Just a sidebar. Thanks for making me think and research this. John Sinclair ( talk) 19:29, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
