If the 2018 FIFA World Cup does come to Canada, a 15000 seat stadium will be too small to host the visitors. Even at 10000 seats, Swangard Stadium was too small for the U-20s. Since BC Place Stadium will likely be used for the Whitecaps until this stadium can be built, I suspect that it too will host games. With its proposed retractable roof, it will be a better venue. Canada has not made an official bid for the 2018 games, and I doubt that it would succeed with the US planning bids for 2018 and 2022, and the requirement for large, natural grass stadia. A west-coast World Cup bid might fare better with games in Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, LA and several other cities in California.
I believe that Canada is looking at hosting the FIFA Women's World Cup first.
I suggest we remove this section and restore it if either bid is actually made. -- Walter Görlitz ( talk) 00:23, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
