The point of the "Weekend World" show under Brien Walden was not just the interview - it was the preparation in the first half of the show. Giving the viewers background information (with, yes, the use of bar charts and pie charts and so on - the things that viewers are supposed to turn off), before the interview takes place. Television shows are mostly taking heads discussing, for example, "government spending cuts" without even saying how much government spends and on what - talk with a basis of factual knowledge. Weekend World, in the Brian Walden years, was different. 90.193.170.135 ( talk) 09:48, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

The ‘Nantucket Sleighride’ referenced in the theme music is the relentless dragging of a helpless whaleboat by its harpooned prey, sometimes over many hours and miles. Was the choice a metaphor for the interviewing style of the show? Freddie Orrell ( talk) 20:38, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
