Hi everyone! I have done extensive research on vinclozolin for a class project, which required that we post our findings on wikipedia. This is my first time posting an article on wikipedia, so please edit or correct and mistakes I have made that do not conform to wikipedia formatting. Thanks! Igoekr21 ( talk) 00:40, 3 November 2011 (UTC)igoekr21
I have a suggestion for an addition to this article:
Vinclozolin has also been found to have neural effects, such as changes in cognitive and locomotor abilities. I thought it would be a good idea to expand on this topic. A review article that has some information on this can be found through this link: http://www.sciencedirect.com.proxy.bc.edu/science/article/pii/S0016648014000483 CiKay ( talk) 01:56, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
I suggest that the "History of regulations in the US" section can be expanded, as the last update was from 2004 Bridget1957 ( talk) 19:15, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
I think your article is organized in a way that makes sense to the reader, and is obviously very well researched. Truly a great edition to Wikipedia. However, I would like to see the "Links to Cancer" section expanded upon. With carcinogens such a hot topic issue for many people across America, I think it would be beneficial to flesh this section out. The following article may help. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2817613/ Bennetmu1492 ( talk) 15:22, 2 February 2015 (UTC)bennetmu1492
Hey! First of all, great job. I thought your article was well organized and very informative. Here are a couple suggestions/questions that popped into my head while I was reading over your article...
Have there been any studies specifically focusing on exposure in children and how it affects children versus adults or animals? https://www.bfr.bund.de/cm/343/exposure_of_children_to_plant_protection_agents.pdf#page=59
At the end you discuss that vinclozolin can be broken down in the environment by water. Is that water then contaminated? Does it affect other animals in the environment because of this water contamination? http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/(SICI)1096-9063(199911)55:11%3C1116::AID-PS65%3E3.0.CO;2-Y/abstract
Also I found an article that discusses transgenerational effects, which you have section on in your paper. Thought this article might help you add some more info to that section. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov.proxy.bc.edu/pmc/articles/PMC2948035/
Lastly, here is an interesting article that finds a link to the nervous system, not just the reproductive system, unfortunately it focuses on rats and not humans or children, but may be helpful… http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0892036206000547
Hope this helps you gather more information to add to your article. It may be articles you have already come across and decided not to use, but just some articles I found. Again great job! Widrickm ( talk) 02:24, 14 November 2011 (UTC)Widrickm
Great article! I think it’s very easy to comprehend for the general Wikipedia user, yet also offers information that dives deeper into the scientific realm. I think it’s great how you wrote not only about the biological and health effects of the fungicide, but also outlined the political, social, and environmental aspects of its use. Here are some suggestions on how to improve the article:
In the Health Impacts section, it would be beneficial to add a short paragraph maybe describing further how vinclozolin is an androgen receptor antagonist. Two sources I used on vinclozolin in the antiandrogen article that seem to discuss not only its androgen receptor antagonist activity but also how its antiandrogenic effects are heightened when in combination with other insecticides are:
{{
cite journal}}
: CS1 maint: multiple names: authors list (
link){{
cite journal}}
: Unknown parameter |month=
ignored (
help)CS1 maint: multiple names: authors list (
link)Also, I think there should to be a section about Future Research according to our assignment requirements. You might add safer alternatives to Vinclozolin to that section. The following article seems to have some alternatives as well as a lot of references that might be usable in this section of your article.
Here are some small grammatical errors that I noticed:
Intro:
Use in the US:
Means of exposure
Lastly, here’s how you can get rid of come unnecessary capitalization that I saw in the article:
When you link words to other Wiki pages, you don’t need to capitalize them as you’ve done in the section on Environmental and Health Impacts. For example, you can type "Antiandrogen|antiandrogenic" inside the double brackets instead of having “Antiandrogen” be the link and it should effectively link to the page. The same goes for Competitive antagonist, Hypospadias, Progesterone, and Estrogen in that section.
Other than that, the article’s very informative and written very well! Kbell90 ( talk) 00:21, 15 November 2011 (UTC)Kbell90
Note from an editor: I thought the sentence about the value of fungicides in general didn't belong in an article about one particular fungicide. Also, the reference used was tertiary to the actual source; the report at the root of these references comes from a research institute that was created by and supported by corporations that manufacture and sell fungicides. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bloggy's man ( talk • contribs) 16:02, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
I thought your article was wonderful - very informative. You covered a broad range of topics and especially your section on Environmental and Health Impacts was fleshed out well with content and sources to back it up. Minor grammar error in Environment section, I think you mean to make "test" in second sentence plural so it reads "Laboratory tests indicate..." I had just one question - you mention units in the "Use in the United States" section as "use of vinclozolin per crop (lbs AI/yr)" - just for clarification, what are "AI" units? Perhaps you could clarify?
As for one small suggestion for improvement: - Since I am a biochemist I am always interested in the synthesis of a compound, would be interested to see the actual chemical reactions written out in the "Preparation and application" section, perhaps with structures and byproducts. It would be informative to see the reaction process, especially for myself and fellow chemists, and the byproducts would be good to know as far as environmental impact too!

I have a few suggestions in my opinion on how to improve the article.
For the section Use in the United States, it seems that there should be more updated information used because the most recent data is from 1997. After researching the use of vinclozolin for crops in the United States, I was only able to find the same documents that were cited in the article. In the future, I would try to look for more updated information on this area for crops in the United States.
In the Preparation and Application section, I would like to see the use of vinclozolin on golf turf. It is mentioned in the introduction so I think it would be interesting to see more information in this section on its applications in everyday life.
The link for reference #8 is only accessible for Boston College students through the log in to the Boston College Libraries so it may be better to find other credible sources that could be used so that other users that are not from Boston College would be able to view them. In the Safety section, here is a more updated article on Global and China Vinclozolin Industry to 2019 with the link http://new.pitchengine.com/pitches/9ef55d25-c128-40b8-8a17-e64763b1be43. I think this section should talk more about the safety that these industries manufactures are exposing their workers and customers to.
Antiandrogen – Spelling change from gondal to gonadal
I checked most of the links and they all appear to still be active.
Overall, fantastic job on the article! You clearly did extensive research and the organization is great. Here are just a few suggestions about how to improve the article:
