My recent removal

I've just removed some stuff that was recently added. I cannot see the source but the phrasing of the addition gives me concern: how much of what is said comes from the source and how much of it is original research based on the contributor's deductions from that source? Can anyone provide a copy of the relevant page, please? - Sitush ( talk) 14:16, 22 February 2014 (UTC) reply

u can remove whatever that sounds like original research, what about the rest of the things? Nijgoykar ( talk) 04:42, 24 February 2014 (UTC) reply
You seem to be using as shed-load of obscure sources by relatively/completely unknown publishers and authors. I think you need first to list here the sources that you propose to use, together with an explanation of why you consider them to be reliable. We get an awful lot of puffery and misrepresentation on caste-related articles and it is often the result of poor sourcing, usually involving vernacular and Raj writers, so please can we start from the basics. - Sitush ( talk) 18:51, 25 February 2014 (UTC) reply
At the point of my revert, you seem to have used:
  • "Gomantak Prakruti ani Sanskruti", Part-1, p. 265 by B. D. Satoskar
  • Sinai Dhume, Ananta Ramakrishna (2009). The cultural history of Goa from 10000 BC to 1352 AD. Panaji: Broadway book centre. pp. 307,179. ISBN  9788190571678.
  • Mitragotri, Vithal Raghavendra (1999), A socio-cultural history of Goa from the Bhojas to the Vijayanagara, Goa University, p. 68
  • Ketkar, Venkatesh Shridhar. "Maharashtriya Jnanakosha". वाणी. Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan.
  • Gazetteer of the Union Territory Goa, Daman and Diu: district gazetter by Vithal Trimbak Gune, Goa, Daman and Diu (India). Gazetteer Dept, published by Gazetteer Dept., Govt. of the Union Territory of Goa, Daman and Diu, 1979
For starters, please can you explain the expertise of Satoskar, Ramakrishna and Ketkar. - Sitush ( talk) 18:56, 25 February 2014 (UTC) reply
Ketkar's work appears to be Maharashtriya Jnanakosha. I'll do some digging regarding whether or not that is reliable, bearing in mind that he died in 1937 & any entries he made about castes etc might have been heavily influenced by the various sanskritisation claims etc. We do not usually use sources from the Raj period. - Sitush ( talk) 19:01, 25 February 2014 (UTC) reply

Suggest merger of both Vaishya Vanik and Kannada Vaishya as both refers to the same set of people

Suggest Kannada Vaishya can be added as a para under Vaishya Vani as only in some parts of Karnataka the community is called Kannada Vaishya. Also added references to the same so merging both pages and de-orphaning the page is better. They are Konkani speaking Goan community found in Maharashtra but also spread in Gujrat and some districts of Uttara Kannada. Wa-user-editor ( talk) 08:09, 26 June 2024 (UTC) reply
