I am missing the GNOME version for 17.10 (the version of Ubuntu that marked the switch back to GNOME).
The GNOME version appears to be 3.26 - Ubuntu Linux will never be the same after version 17.10 (ZDNet).

Under version 11.04, it states Ubuntu switched to Unity from the Gnome Shell
Under version 17.10, it states Ubuntu abandoned Unity and used Gnome Shell for the first time.
Version 11.04 was released in 2010, and Gnome Shell was released in 2011.
I believe, as I understand it, that Gnome 1 and 2 used “Gnome Panel”, and Gnome shell was in fact a change in 2011. So version 11.04’s section should say and link to gnome panel. Unless I’m wrong, in which case version 17.10’s section should say it’s switching back to Gnome Shell.
For clarity, I’d go further and state more clearly that Ubuntu used Gnome desktop, with the gnome panel interface, switched to unity, gave up on unity, switched back to gnome desktop, but used gnome shell interface for the first time. But I’m not familiar enough with Ubuntu and Gnome to make this change unilaterally. Abomb7682 ( talk) 08:35, 10 January 2021 (UTC)
The screenshots of the releases in this article have different resolutions, languages, and whether the file manager, menu, or browser is present.
The first few screenshots are taken by the same person resulting in a lot of consistency. However, the rest are taken by a myriad of people over time as the releases appeared resulting in the problem I've described above.
