Repairing incoming links to this page requires more research in reliable sources than usual. While repairing the majority of 90 recent incoming links, I find a timeline is helpful. Most incoming links to Tonawanda intend either the Town of Tonawanda (est. 1836) or the City of Tonawanda (est. 1904). References to "Tonawanda" prior to 1904 usually intend the Town, but references concerning lumber, shipping, etc. in the period 1854 to 1904 may intend the Village of Tonawanda (1854-1904). From its incorporated area on the south side of the Erie Canal, the Village expanded north into unincorporated Niagara County. In 1897 the north side broke away from the Village and incorporated as the City of North Tonawanda. In 1904 the Village was (re)incorporated as the City. -- Una Smith ( talk) 00:36, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
