We just were at the Stanley Hotel a couple of days ago. The Hotel has nothing to do with the movie, "The Shining," starring Jack Nicholson. Stephen King spent one night in the hotel and went back to Boulder and finished his book. Not one frame of the movie was filmed at this hotel. The hotel is a fine place to visit but if you think you are going to see and/or hear about the movie don't waste your time. We could have spent the whole day in Rocky Mt. National Park rather than waste our vacation time on something that is so misleading. We felt like it was nothing more than a tourist trap making money on misrepresentation! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Butcher29 ( talk • contribs) 02:17, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
I corrected the location and the name of the hotel, including moving the page and adding a redirect at the old location. I also wikified The Shining and added information about the filming at The Stanley. Merenta 18:53, 4 Nov 2004 (UTC)
The ONLY reason this page exists on Wikipedia is because this hotel is famous for being haunted. There is NO MENTION WHATSOEVER of ANY haunting at this hotel!! What the hell?! Someone who knows something needs to add that in......... or delete the article. Somebody ALSO needs to place a banner up there announcing that this article is completely inaccurate (omission of any haunting info makes it that way), but I don't know how to do that. Wow, that's a convenient excuse...
-Our jewelry and watches were stolen, we noticed right after our room was serviced! "Ya... ghosts, happens all the time" -Oh, um...can we at least file a report? "I don't see the point, police can't arrest a ghost can they?" -Ah, can we at least see the contents of your pocket? "No, that might upset the ghosts." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cephlapod ( talk • contribs) 02:29, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
In paragraph 4, should the reference to "USDA" be "USGS"? It seems unlikely that the Department of Agriculture would be consulted over geological matters... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.126.216.27 ( talk) 22:14, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
why can't we add the things sceen on Ghost Hunters when they visited the Stanley both times? Tu-49 18:29, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
I removed this section because I checked the "source" link. Some info wasn't even from that page - and what was taken from that page was nearly word-for-word. That is both original research and copyright violation. Better just to have the link to the site under related links than to repeat the information here. Why were the dates in this article changed? Was it built in 1998? or in 1909, as the article stated until yesterday? —Preceding unsigned comment added by BeeSea ( talk • contribs) 16:48, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
I've reverted again to fix the dates and other apparent vandalism. BeeSea ( talk) 21:59, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Should we add any mention of the parties they are throwing now? http://www.eptrail.com/datebook/ci_30275383/historic-stanley-hotel-announces-its-biggest-halloween-lineup Also in the history part, does all the info come from the same sources (2 and 3) or are we getting info from somewhere else? Specifically the Dunraven buckskin petition story and how Freelan died. Leon8711 ( talk) 15:39, 2 September 2016 (UTC)
