African American?

I noticed that Chutkan is included in Category:African-American judges, but I don't see any mention of her ancestry in the article. The fact that she's Jamaican doesn't necessarily mean she's Black - based on her name and appearance, if I had to guess I'd guess that she's Indo-Jamaican. That's obviously just an unsourced guess, and I'd never include someone in category based on a guess like that. But I'm curious about the basis for listing her as Black. This government source implies that she identifies as both Black and Asian, though it's a bit ambiguously worded. Pharos ( talk) 18:14, 2 August 2023 (UTC) reply
Thanks Pharos! I think that's adequate to support the category. Guettarda ( talk) 20:29, 2 August 2023 (UTC) reply
My parents and Tanya's parents were good friends, when we were growing up in Jamaica. And I was good friends with Tanya's brother at school. But I can't use myself as a reference, can I? Her father's an Indo-Jamaican named Winston Chutkan. Her mother's an Afro-Jamaican named Noelle Chutkan, nee Hill. I will try to find references somewhere that address her heritage. Tanya Chutkan's father, Winston Chutkan, was one of Jamaica's first orthopedic surgeons, and was well-known by local athletes. He is believed to be descended from indentured laborers sent from India to Jamaica by the British empire between 1845 and 1917. 173.88.246.138 ( talk) 05:30, 19 August 2023 (UTC) reply
