Am dividing my resources between Federated Malay States and this article. After some research time managed to confirm exactly how the coat of arms of the straits settlement look like (ref from the back of old malayan ringgit notes and some incomplete image that I had to completely clean up and (for some part) redo. Will get back to this if have more time.

Why was Negeri-Negeri Selat removed from the native_name field? -- Bukhrin 18:05, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
What kind of $ does this article refer to? Straits dollar? United States dollar? Malaya and British Borneo dollar? -- ChoChoPK (球球PK) ( talk | contrib) 23:07, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
As a British colony, I presume that the official language of the Straits Settlements should be English only. I am not sure about Malay, but I doubt that Chinese and Indian languages are official as well. -- Joshua Say "hi" to me! What I've done? 13:37, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
I have not found anything specifically on official language during the colonial period. But the carefully documented website
http://freepages.family.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jacklee/Files/Moyer-MultilingualMultiethnicCountry.pdf says this: "In 1946, the government provided free primary education in the four main languages – Chinese, Malay, Tamil and
English. In 1955 the government recommended that each of the four main languages be treated equally."
