Stereopticon v. stereoscope

Let's set the record staight... A Stereopticon is NOT a Stereoscope. A Stereopticon is a projector, which does not create stereoscopic images. OED second edition, Merriam-Webster Unabridged for two sources. I'm as surprised as anyone else; as a child I'd always heard the term used to describe what is now called a "stereoscope". 12.103.251.203 22:10, 30 November 2006 (UTC) reply

"Stereopticon" was also the brand name for stereoscopes used by the Keystone Viewing Company of Meadville, PA at the time, to futher add confusion.
