The negros commnet seems a bit POV too me.. there were white steerage passengers too mind you, especially Irish immigrnats. -- Saint-Paddy 03:20, 31 October 2005 (UTC)
You've both lost me. We didn't get too many negroes immigrating here (Australia), but thousands came steerage. Immigration has as little to do with it as race: steerage was a common class of cheap ticket in former times. However, I won't edit the article because it is not a subject I know about more than I've just noted. ( Alpheus 10:55, 8 November 2005 (UTC))
Should steerage (the boat type) and steerage (the people) be separate articles?

I don't think so, no.
So you describe the configuration of an 18th century ( wooden, sailing ) warship, and then go directly without change of context to a late 19th century ( iron, steamship ) passenger ship. That's highly confusing.
This article seems to have been written by a student in primary/elementary school. Jolly enterprising. Now get it edited by an adult, please. 121.44.221.96 ( talk) 10:53, 16 September 2015 (UTC)

Steerage (deck) → Steerage – Restore original page title which the article remained at from 2004-2013. The shorter title has remained as a redirect since the page was moved. 50.248.234.77 ( talk) 02:39, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
