What is this song about? It sounds like it's about someone who lost a lover and/or friend in a plane crash? Is there any background on this? Any magazine articles?

The reliance on a single source in this article is fairly problematic. For one, the sighted source doesn't indicate where it drew the conclusion that it does about the meaning of the lyrics. Secondly, the vast majority of the lyrics do not follow the "love song" interpretation presented in that article. The song touches on multiple topics such as life, ageing, distance between people who are once close, religion and the passage of time, and is far more likely to be discussing the meaning and interpretation of life. Without a concrete primary source indicating the true meaning of the song, we can't say that the "love song" interpretation presented in this article is accurate.
