The name may not originate from a bomb, nor a comic strip. At the time this nose art was painted, actress (late 30's to early 50's) "Punkins" Parker (often referred to as "Some Punkins") was a household word, even picked by Max Factor as the "real Miss America". That seems more likely than the reasons listed.
