Julie Cowell was brought up in the city of Brighton and the family did live there for a number of years. It seems that they moved after the birth of Nick. Julie Cowell moved back to Brighton and now lives in Ovingdean, just east of the city centre. Nick got married a couple of years ago in the nearby village of Rottingdean.

Hi, Wasted Time, I am not sure about that, that the article doesn't work with separately-headed sections. It could be done in such a way that separate sections bring in different aspects of his life or career. It works with almost any other article. This way, it is just one monolithic slab where one has to go through the whole to find separate aspects every time one looks for them. Don't forget, as time goes on more and more will be added, and eventually it will certainly be necessary, to make it more convenient. The only thing is that it may need to be reorganised somewhat, but I am sure it can be done. Dieter Simon 22:30, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
Is there a way someone could elaborate on this? It would help to know the specifics of what happened on this show. --AWF

What evidence is there that Cowell is Jewish? As with many articles, someone keeps claiming British media celebrities are Jewish, with no evidence.
How can he be listed as being Jewish, when his mother was Jewish and he wasn't brought up as a Jew?
Someone has put that SC has relations with animals. Surely this either needs to be references or removed - the former being prefered but sadly latter more likely.

I toned down some language. "Cowell went so far as to call..." is not neutral language. "Cowell called..." is much better. The reference doesn't indicate whether the person he said "Bush baby" to was disabled. That a contenstant "had a disorder" is so vague as to mean nothing.
It's also stupid to say "Cowell offended obese people". Cowell offends everybody; fat, thin, black, white, short, tall, and probably would offend someone with two heads if they auditioned for the show. 199.71.183.2 19:43, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Have added a couple of citations to the references suggesting Cowell was a record producer. I previously went so far as to amend a version, by changing the quote to "record promoter", as I firmly believe that's what Cowell was during the 80s. However, the version was replaced with the identical quotes from before, so I feel like I'm banging my head against a wall. Anyway, I remember footage of him as a young lad, appearing on Saturday morning telly (something like "Saturday Superstore"), early 80s sort of era. There's no way this kid was a producer; in fact he was brought on as some sort of promoter, or a figure within the music industry. Anyway, if anybody can provide citations, I;d be well interested to read them. FungasUK ( talk) 20:20, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Cowell was born in Brighton, East Sussex, England and brought up in Elstree, Hertfordshire. [1] His father, Eric Philip Cowell, was an estate agent developer and music industry executive, and his mother, Julie Brett ( née Josie Dalglish), is a former ballet dancer and socialite. [2] Cowell's paternal grandparents, Joseph Cowell and Esther Malinsky, were English Jews, and his maternal grandfather was Scottish. [3] He has 1 brother, younger brother Nicholas Cowell, and 4 half-siblings, Tony Cowell, Michael Cowell, June Cowell (who lives in Majorca with her two daughters) and John Cowell. Michael is the oldest, followed by John, June Tony, Simon and Nicholas, (in that specific order). [4] [5]
Cowell attended Oathall Community College as did his brother, but left early before sixth form. He took a few menial jobs, but did not get along well with co-workers and bosses, until his father who was executive at the recording giant at EMI Music Publishing, managed to get him a job in the mail room.

Westlife is an Irish pop band that was formed on July 3rd, 1998. They were signed on by """Simon Cowell""" and are currently managed by Louis Walsh. Over the years, Westlife's music has evolved from teen pop to an adult contemporary sound, with an emphasis on ballads.
The group's original lineup comprised Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, Shane Filan, and Brian McFadden. Filan and Feehily are the band's lead vocalists. All of the band members are songwriters, although most of their hits have been composed by external writers. They garnered 14 number one singles in the United Kingdom, the third-highest in UK history, tying with Cliff Richard and tailing behind Elvis Presley and The Beatles. The band has also won numerous awards such as the "Best Irish Pop Act" at the annual Ireland Meteor Awards and ITV "Record of the Year" award in the UK. The band has also broken a few top records, including "Music artist with most consecutive number 1's in the UK" and the "Biggest selling arena act in the UK". Westlife have had 14 UK no.1's and were the first act in UK history to have 4 number 1s in a year. Not only that, they were the only band to have no.1's with their first 7 singles. All the rest of their hits have got to the top 10, if not the top 5.
For 10 years in the running, they have released six Studio Albums, one Greatest Hits album, one tribute album, one Cover Album, two Boxed sets, two Compilation Albums, twenty-six singles. All in all, it has been declared that they sold more than 50 million albums worldwide

The phrase "television personality" deserves expansion. The most obvious personality attributes that come across on television are those such as superficial, unwarrantedly smug, slightly unpleasant, unimportant, of little presence, of small stature, unnoteworthy. For these he is, indeed a mediocre exemplar. However, are they what is meant by 'a personality'? "Simon Phillip Cowell (born 7 October 1959) is an British music executive," Does anyone else see the grammatical error in this? Sorry to sound like a pedant but it needs to be changed, it's the first line of the entire page and is a disgusting reflection of how us users congregate to edit pages. (For those of you who do not know, it should be changed to "a British music") I briefly read somewhere that someone changed it from "English" to "British", so perhaps that's when the flaw occurred, if so could it either be reverted back to its previous settings or if not then could someone at least fix this grammatical error!
In the "Idol franchise and Il Divo" section, he's immediately categorised as a nasty son of a bitch with only rude criticism. The section also states that he is regularly booed at before he starts speaking. I haven't watched much of the program, but as far as I'm aware, Simon Cowell is the only reason the show ever got popular, so why describe him as a nasty bastard? 'Upon his appearance on Top Gear, it was revealed that Cowell pays more than £21.7m per year in income tax, suggesting that his taxable income is over £54.25m per year with income tax at the time approximately 40%.'
Is this earnings claim of ~ £50 m, derived from a figure given in a Times Online article by Jeremy Clarkson, truly reliable? If you read the relevant part of that article, the £21.7 m figure appears to be given as an off-hand (i.e. made up) remark by Jeremy Clarkson (not renowned for being a reliable narrator). It doesn't appear to be a statement of fact, backed up by any evidence - but just the author's opinion or estimate.
I think the above statement should be removed from the article.

There is a reference to Sinitta's album Rondo Veneziano, which of course is a mistake that has crept in over the lest 18 months due to incorrect editing. The infobox says: "Labels - EMI, E&S Music, Fanfare Records, BMG, S Records, Sony Music Entertainment, Syco". What exactly is Simon Cowell's role in all those labels? The only one he actually owns is Syco. On the pages of all others he is not even mentioned. At all. Not a word. WHO is he and why are those labels mentioned in his infobox? If it's the numerous places he worked at and been kicked out, then it should be said more clearly. BadaBoom ( talk) 03:43, 10 January 2013 (UTC) I see the problem now. A musical artist infobox was used instead of entrepreneur. Needs change. Meanwhile I removed all those labels from the infobox because he is not signed to them. And never has been. Cowell's very first brush with fame was when he appeared on the BBC's 'Top of the Pops' as "Wonderdog" in 1982 at the age of 23. His song, which consisted entirely of dog barks set to music, actually reached No 31 in the UK charts. His very first outing....yet no mention in the main article. I was hoping to find some information about Simon's career before becoming a judge on Idol. This article hops from the EMI mail room to arguably the most famous judge of musical talent in the world. The section "During his appearance on Top Gear, it was revealed that Cowell pays more than £21.7m per year in income tax, suggesting that his taxable income is over £54.25m per year with income tax at the time approximately 40%.[72][73] (NB: UK Income Tax 40% for earnings over £34,600)." is sourced to a paywalled Times article and an HMRC page about tax rates. Given that the former is in the "Driving" section of the newspaper, from the URL, this looks a lot like the WP:SYNTHESIS combination of a Top Gear quote and HMRC tax rates to make an informed guess. I've cut it until someone can verify that all of this actually appears in the first source and the second isn't required. -- McGeddon ( talk) 11:37, 4 April 2014 (UTC)

It is to my knowledge that Simon Cowell was not born in London as shown, as he was born in Brighton and Hove, his mother still currently resides there. I would therefore ask for this to be changed to the correct city. Many thanks. Tommyeates1234 ( talk) 09:14, 15 February 2014 (UTC)
80% of sources, including unofficial biographies and Encyclopedia Britannica, say he was born in Brighton. Using the birth records as a single source may be a red herring - his birth records were updated at a later date due to "incorrect information", whatever that means - so it's very likely that they travelled from Elstree to the nearest major registry office to sort out that mistake. His mum lived in Brighton and is still in that area Davidbod ( talk) 09:17, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

Simon has been around on tv a lot longer than his more recent career might suggest. In 1982 he made his first foray into the record business with "Wonderdog", which briefly entered the UK charts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuRnwMQkCmY

In last line under Personal life, you have "he was testing it at his home state in California." Drop the word "state" so it reads, "he was testing it at his home in California." ExumWalker ( talk) 00:28, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
Currently it reads...
"He then found a job with BMG as an A&R consultant and set up S Records under BMG.[24][25] He restarted his career in the music business by creating novelty records with acts such as the puppets Zig and Zag, Power Rangers and World Wrestling Federation."
S Records came much later, after being involved with Arista/BMG labels I.Q. and Connect. So it should say something like this:
"He then found a job with BMG as an A&R consultant and helped set up I.Q. Records and then Connect under BMG. [2] After having a few hits on these labels as the executive producer for a number of hits by Sonia and UK Mixmasters, his label was folded back into the main BMG labels. He decided to launch a number of records with acts/properties that had a large television following, achieving top ten hits for Irish puppets Zig and Zag, [3] the Mighty Morph'n Power Rangers [4] and the superstar wrestlers of WWF" [5]
The first Westlife record credited to S Records came out in 2002, after the band had 9 number ones. [6] [7] 2002 was the same year that Gareth Gates had his first number one (on S Records) with Unchained Melody [8] Therefore the bit about S Records needs to go after "Later acts he signed included Five, Westlife and Teletubbies"
Therefore as S Records was happening around the same time as his early talent show judging success, maybe this section should be retitled "Music Career", especially as there is noting about the Top 40 hit “Ruff Mix” by Wonderdog, Simon Cowell's earliest hit record (when he was involved with E&S Music)' [9] [10] [11] [12] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.154.173.46 ( talk) 14:00, 26 November 2021 (UTC)

Dead at Age 47 Due to tight black shirts, Simon Cowell's blood circulation was cut off and caused him to have a heart attack. He died in his hotel room after the Top 11 Finalist showing on March 20, 2007. More information to follow. Crion 01:57, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
There should be a controversy section. He has been attacked by minorities, overweight people, feminists, homosexuals and other groups of losers for some of the comments he's made. BTW we all know that the only reason Idol has lasted this long is because people like me are eager to hear what Simon has to say.
I think unregistered editors should not be able to access this article. The "References" list had been removed for many days and stayed removed. Without it some of the dubious statements made in the "Personal life" para for example, could not be verified. I am surprised Simon hasn't thrown a defamation suit at us. Let's put it this way, we are going the right way about it if we are continuing to let this happen. The "nose-picking" item was in for quite a number of days. The chronology of this article needs to be improved. Specifically, under "Professional career", it is mentioned that Cowell signed a five-year contract renewal in 2006 for American Idol, two paragraphs before it is mentioned when he started on Pop Idol and then American Idol. -- Metropolitan90 06:54, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
It's not accurate to estimate that Cowell pays 40% income tax. Anybody of substantial wealth who is not an employee is very likely to use the full range of options availed to them by UK tax law to reduce their tax payment significantly below 40% of income. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.224.61.182 ( talk) 23:18, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

The whole section sounds like WP:OR, there are no references whatsoever (let alone WP:RS) and I question the notability of Simon calling someone a bush baby (he's probably called people worse things than that but please don't take this as a challenge to go list them all) as well as accusations of rolling his eyes when he didn't.

I see no valid source to validate the claim that his grandparents were Jewish. Therefore, that statement should be removed. John O —Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnnyorland ( talk • contribs) 00:59, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Or is such a description implicitly derogatory, being a metaphor for having nothing really of note about them other than a slightly laughable brashness for which a little pity might be felt. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.145.23.52 ( talk) 10:45, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

What did Simon do in between those jobs? How did he become a someone who evaluates or hunts for musical talent? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.238.29.45 ( talk) 01:58, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
Why is that when any celebrity has any hint of being Jewish in their background,it is always one of the first things revealed about him/her. It is always invariably irrelevant to the person's identity. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.57.33.27 ( talk) 01:33, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
Pre-American Idol info on Cowell shold be expanded. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.235.39.66 ( talk) 03:41, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

There appears to be a chronic lack of detail about his life before TV appearances. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.10.69.23 ( talk) 12:14, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
Simon has been around on tv a lot longer than his more recent career might suggest. In 1982 he made his first foray into the record business with "Wonderdog", which briefly entered the UK charts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuRnwMQkCmY
He subsequently appeared in interviews dressed as the wondrous performing dog. His voice is quite recognizable. http://www.buzzfeed.com/rchemel/simon-cowell-as-wonderdog-4c

In these terms the word England should be replaced with the name United Kingdom. By the same terms he should not be described as English.
