Independence is a condition of a person, nation, country, or state in which its residents and population, or some portion thereof, exercise self-government, and usually sovereignty, over the territory, which is consistent with the use across all "Independence of" articles. There is no reason this article's scope would have to change under the proposed title, just as there is nothing significantly unique to justify its nonconformity with titling trends across other articles. Lee Kuan Yew, who served as prime minister of Singapore from 1959, when it gained partial independence from BritainAbdoolcarim, Zoher; Chowdhury, Neel (Mar 22, 2015). "'Father of Singapore' Lee Kuan Yew Dies at 91".
