  • Comment. As to the translation of the Russian word "Кавказская", this is debatable. In my opinion this can be translated as either "Caucasian" or "of the Caucaus" depending on context, and perhaps "Army of the Caucasus" is the best translation for "Кавказская армия"; but we haven't done this, and so the choice is between "Caucasian Army" or "Caucasus Army". In my opinion the latter is most in keeping with military parlance. If America had an army based in its eastern mountains, its formal name would probably be "Appalachia Army" rather than "Appalachian Army", although in informal conversation people would use the latter adjectival form. I think "Caucasian Army" has been used some on Wikipedia because "Кавказская армия" has been transliterated rather than properly translated. Herostratus ( talk) 15:40, 20 October 2010 (UTC) reply
