This was originally just a disambiguation page, but I have been working to turn it into a general article as a bridge between
distributed rendering and RenderMan API's which are an extremely narrow and specialized area of discussion. It is worth noting the history of the software/API that got us to where we are now.

This article contains so many wrong facts, I don't even know how to start. There was a good reason this was a disambiguation page. I strongly suggest to return this to a disambiguation page. All the facts about PRMan are in the resp. article on the software (the 1st version did not run on a Mac, this is bullshit). All the facts about the API are in the API article (the API has absolutely nothing to do with networking and neither are implementation details, i.e. ray-tracing, part of it). Caveat emptor: I have been using Pixar's RenderMan and RenderMan compliant renderers in production for over two decades and have been participating in the RenderMan newsgroup, while it was active, for over a decade (google my name +RenderMan).
Hello, everyone. Because of the article's
complete lack of source, perceived factual inaccuracy,
WP:CFORK and the fact that PRMan is now called RenderMan, I have converted the article back to a dab page. (You know the drill: Content without source may be deleted.) I stress that any addition of disputed content needs to be accompanied with a source.
