Since Roisin is correct for all entries here, and Róisín is not, this should be at Roisin with the redirect from Róisín, not vice versa. -- Gene Nygaard ( talk) 17:44, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
It is not an error to write in English using the English alphabet, that is quite given. It is however error to spell a Irish name without its correct indications of pronunciation, in the case the fadas in Róisín or " diacritics" if you will. The pronuciation that Roisin gives is, regardless if one understands its spoken term less its fadas, incorrect and if to be spelled "correctly" using the English language would be written somewhat more phonetically eg. Rosheen. The mear fact that the name itself is an Irish one seems to have been overlooked by this "correction", and if one was to besome more indepthly concerned with the correct use of the name in the English language newspapers, for example, one may consider disregarding its Gaelic heritage and refer to the name entirely as Rose. 86.41.33.201 ( talk) 01:07, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
"Roisin Dubh" redirects to "Roisin". Since "Roisin Dubh" is a fairly common metaphor for Ireland, and the phrase redirects here, I believe mention should be made about this here. 83.109.79.32 ( talk) 17:12, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
Using the unaccented version of the name as the primary spelling in incorrect according to the
Manual of Style, as far as I can tell: "10. The síneadh fada (or acute accent) should be used when Irish spelling requires it; thus "Mary Robinson (Máire Mhic Róibín)", not "Mary Robinson (Maire Mhic Roibin)".". The word is quite definitely Irish. Roisin is a variant, but not the primary instance. I cite
Máire,
Siobhán and
René as justification for using the accented version first. This is not an anglicised name (Rosheen, which should be mentioned), it is a simplified spelling. As for the Róisín Dubh issue. That shouldn't direct here. It should have it's own page, but it should be mentioned. I'm going to implement the change.
