Is the etymology what it seems to be? - Smerdis of Tlön - killing the human spirit since 2003! 03:48, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
@ Anthony Appleyard: I have a question about some of the recent edits to this article. As far as I know, no reliable source has stated that Putana was the source of the 1808–1809 mystery eruption, so I wouldn't say that this volcano played any role. It is also implausible because while Putana is remote, it isn't that remote and large eruptions at Huaynaputina in 1600 and Lascar in 1993 were conspicuous even at distances. If the 1808-1809 eruption of Putana was this large, it would probably have been seen and would have also left a caldera. Jo-Jo Eumerus ( talk, contributions) 08:13, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
Putana volcano should say that it is a stratovolcano and it is located in the Andean Central Volcanic Zone (CVZ) at the beginning. Also, it is always good to have a distance reference from any nearby town (like San Pedro, Machuca, or even "El Tatio") for reference. Fumaroles should say four "fumarolic" fields. 1952 citing of 30 fumaroles, there could just be a mention saying "Historically, there have been several reports of fumarolic activity since late XIX century, early XX century and on (Rudolph, 1952 & Casertano, 1963 [1]). Just because there is no other reference saying there are so many fumaroles in Putana but has been active since the 1800s. The reference for the temperature of the fumarole 82-89°C was taken by Tassi et al 2011, mentioned in Henderson and Pritchard 2013, so the citing should be Tassi et al 2011 in my opinion. Some links do not work (link 13 "Putana TM Image Information". link 15 from Neimeyer Archived from the original (PDF) on 2016-03-04. Retrieved 2018-10-27).
