Okay, how 'bout this: instead of merging this page to the "corporal punishment" page, simply rename this article "physical abuse" instead of "phyiscal punishment". Restructure as necessary. Then, put the "corporal punishment" article under the category about crime, law, punishment, etc. -Alex, 12.220.157.93 01:17, 11 February 2006 (UTC).
I propose renaming this page "List of physical punishments" and deleting the misleading and unreferenced lead section article text itself, which, even if true, is not supported by reliable sources. Material included in Wikipedia must be verifiable using "reliable, third-party, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy" (
WP:RELY). I have found no reliable sources that make a distinction between corporal punishment and physical punishment. Therefore, physical punishment as a separate topic from
corporal punishment fails Wikipedia's general notability guideline (
Wikipedia:Notability). As a list, the page would still aid in navigation with no notability conflict.
It is a spurious distinction to say that physical punishment includes corporal punishment, and only adds confusion to Wikipedia. The two terms are synonymous, as Oxford Dictionaries shows in their definition of corporal punishment: "Physical punishment, such as caning or flogging". [1] A search for "physical punishment" on The Free Dictionary (Legal) merely redirects to "Corporal punishment". Especially in the domestic sphere, there is no difference in meaning. [2] The link to "physical punishment" on the other's page should be re-worded "Corporal punishment, or physical punishment", or similar — Coconutporkpie ( talk) 08:04, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
