No, Juliana International Airport's 7300-foot runway is not unusually short (it's almost a mile and a half long), and aircraft do not have to fly unusually low. And the aircraft are probably at an altidute of about 100 feet over Maho Beach. Simply repeating uncited claims from tourist brochures and barroom lore doesn't belong here.
