Good call Tskoge - I agree with your re-revert. There is nothing on the disambiguation page that is "bigger" than THE PSP. Plus it is a recognised brand name, unlike the others (which are just short-forms). Deano 17:33, 5 September 2005 (UTC)
Okay, there are a total of 12 articles that can be reffered to as "PSP". The REDIRECT *needs* to go to the Disambiguation page. To link this 'ambiguous three-letter acronym' to any single *one* of these articles is asinine. I'd easily say a couple of you have broken the 3R rule here. At this point, if someone *still* feels that PSP needs to redirect to a single one of the 1/12th of the possible meanings to PSP, please RfC.
For reference, from GoogleFights:
- You'll notice that the PlayStation Portable is *not* the most popular of the PSP's. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.106.209.210 ( talk • contribs)
Guys, this is an encyclopedia, not a vehicle for you to promote your favourite concole ;) There are a lot of options for what PSP means, two of which are more likely than the others. A disambiguation page is the right way in this case. Thanks/ wangi 21:32, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
Folks, this is not a big enough issue to get into revert wars over! Redirects should be bypassed anyway, so almost no readers will be seeing the redirect page. Better to put your energy into seeing
what links there, and piping links to bypass the redirect directly to
PlayStation Portable or whatever is appropriate, changing [[PSP]]
into [[PlayStation Portable|PSP]]
(it's usually best not to mess with user's pages, though).
Google results alone don't mean that much; the Sony game and the PC software are both heavily marketed items, so their numbers are artificially bloated. Nobody is using thousands of commercial web sites to shill Palm Springs International Airport or Paralytic shellfish poisoning as stocking-stuffers. The Sony product is also this year's new game, so its prominence is fleeting. Nevertheless, the two top items score practically identical numbers of hits, less than one percent different, so there is no obvious most-prominent target for PSP. PSP should probably continue to redirect to PSP (disambiguation). — Michael Z. 2006-01-3 21:35 Z
I'm sorry for coming into this discussion late, but I feel that the consensus around this is truly misplaced, in that I take it all parties agreed to disagree. As one who lacks a PSP (still lugging around my
Game Gear) and has used Paint Shop Pro on various occasions, I feel I can be somewhat more neutral than others. I was put off by the fact that upon searching for PSP, I was brought to a disambiguation page, mostly filled with redlinks and other less important topics. My first instict was to move the pages to correct this issue, but decided to read the talk page first. It appears there is a great deal of contention (or at least there was, at the beginning of this year), and now that some time has past, I thought I could possibly bring it up again. I read over the Google results discussion, and decided to do a little research of my own. What we must remember, however, is that we are not making the disambiguation page based on the popularity of each product, but rather the popularity of the search term PSP. Using this information, I Googled "Paint Shop Pro" PSP, returning 1,390,000 results. Then I plugged in "Playstation Portable" PSP, and was impressed to see 14,000,000 results. Even plugging in plain PSP brings up the top two results (and most of the pages) as being for PSP. However, we should all know by now that Google is not infalliable. What really confuses me about this discussion though is why the PlayStation Portable "(officially PSP)", according to
the article, is even considered competing with Paint Shop Pro for this acronym, in that PSP is an informal and unofficial—and less used—for Paint Shop Pro. Lastly, I looked over the Whatlinkshere page for
PSP,
Playstation Portable and
Corel Paint Shop Pro, and saw the vast number of links pointing to PSP are intended for Playstation Portable, and there are a far greater number pointing to Playstation Portable than to Paint Shop Pro. I don't think this needs to go to RfC, but seriously, guys.... -

Please do not make this page the disambig page and the other the redirect. There is no valid reason to do so, both work equally well and by copying across the content you are breaking up the page history, see Wikipedia:How to rename (move) a page for the proper way to move a page. However there is no reason why things should not be left the way they are. Thanks/ wangi 14:34, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
But that isn't the case in other disambiguations. SMS is just SMS, with the disambiguation notice ont eh bottom to signify a diambiguation. I just requested and had Diddy moved from Diddy (disambiguation) since it seemed lame. An third, Princess Daisy funnels directly into an article about the Nintendo character, with Princess Daisy (disambiguation) serving as the place for other users. Given the three precedents I just listed, I really two things should be done:

PlayStation Portable is the 535th most popular page on Wikipedia. [1] ( PlayStation 2 is #612, PlayStation 3 is #12, PlayStation is #288.) Nothing else on the PSP disambig page is on the top 1000. People looking for PSP are looking for PlayStation Portable, nothing else. Stop the madness! PSP must redirect to PlayStation Portable. Johnsonsjohnson 11:03, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

It's remarkable how prone this page is to vandalism. Perhaps this would be less so if the page redirected to PlayStation Portable but that's the only benefit I could see to that. The Seventh Taylor 17:35, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Shouldn't this page (the article I mean -- not the talk page) be semi-protected? The Seventh Taylor 21:03, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
