I guarentee that the most common use of the word OZ in the world is to refer to Australia, so I have moved it.
Maybe the wicked witch did continue to live after melting... but as melted goo that absorbed into the ground :-) -- RTC 00:02 Nov 28, 2002 (UTC)

I believe Oz was originally satire aimed at William Jennings Bryan, the Democratic Presidential candidate in 1896, 1900, and 1908, but I see nothing about that here. Am I right on this?

I don't think Oz comes directly from "Oz-tralia" but rather either from "AUS" - the international 3-letter identification code for Australia or from "Aussie" (I don't know which came first), perhaps someone would care to look into this vital matter...
I can't find an article link for this entry:
I'm inclined to delete it. Thoughts?
