Opacity (Environmental) - is the attenuation of light. As a light source of intensity "Io" is transmitted through a medium, particulate within the flue gas blocks, i.e, attenuates, the energy of the transmitted beam resulting in beam of less intensity "Ir". The difference "Io - Ir" is referred to as the amount of opacity.

That should go into the article and make it more than a disambig page, certainly. Also of note, I think the under used word "Pellucid" is the opposite of "Opaque", since "translucent" is a measure of some kind of passage of light but not a tendency in that regard.
