There is a good enough distinction between the two to keep them seperate.I wanted to look up the Old South;Im glad I didn't get the article Southern states because I wouldn't have known that it also contained the Old South as well:)—Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.106.138.2 on 15:24, 11 May 2006 ( talkcontribs) . Capitalization

Being from the region in question, in my opinion a more accurate term would be "the Old South", with both letters in upper case. This would reflect the usage of that style that was far more common in earlier days to refer to both its own region and "the North". Chidom  talk  15:12, 9 October 2006 (UTC) reply
