I believe that the attribution to Moon Unit Zappa of the title ' Ship Arriving Too Late To Save Drowning Witch' is erroneous. If I recall correctly, the cryptic drawing which appears on the album's cover is a ' droodle' by Roger Price, the 1950's humorist who created the genre, and the title is his as well. (A droodle is a simple drawing which cannot be interpreted without its caption.)

As written: "'Valley Girl' was Frank Zappa's only top 40 hit in the United States..." Is this a typo? Should it say "...Moon Zappa's only top 40 hit..."? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hermitage ( talk • contribs) 19:42, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
This is a wonderful wikipedia article. It's brief. It's concise. It's readable. It has no superfluos stuff. It has an appropriately brief mention of trvia about her name instead of a dopey list of three dozen video game references. I like it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ronstew ( talk • contribs) 05:12, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Can anyone get a hold of an image of Moon? It'd be useful to associate an image with the "valley girl". — SheeEttin { T/ C} 23:46, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Just because Moon uses the word "like" in the single doesn't necessarily mean that the song is the source of the word "like" in the American lexicon in its current form. That's a gigantic leap of logic (especially considering the song is already BASED on an American pseudo-dialect that existed independently from Moon). Valley Girl did not put "like" in the lexicon. It *might* have put it into popularity nation-wide, but even that is pretty questionable considering the word was already being tossed around in at least one part of the country before the song's release. There could have been millions of other things that caused the word to spread across the country, including the real life "valley girls" themselves. At the very least, that claim needs to be sourced here, and it's not. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.253.107.192 ( talk) 02:59, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
So what's a "moon unit"? Does that mean anything? Cool name though. Maikel ( talk) 00:00, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
-- If her name is "Moon Unit Zappa", then her middle name is Moon. Why would any further citation be needed? What other reasonable interpretation would there be? Her surname is Zappa. She is generally know by her first name and her surname: Moon Zappa. Sometimes, her middle name is used as well: Moon Unit Zappa. This is totally ordinary and unexceptional. No citation is necessary. Her two given names are unusual, but their usage as "first name" and "middle name" are not noteworthy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 139.68.134.1 ( talk) 17:31, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

wasn't "moon unit" already in the lexicon for the landing rover or somesuch? perhaps having come from some earlier scifi film?
moreover, SNL's "parental unit" predated this song, no? that proved popular in slang nationwide.
so it is insincere to claim "unit" as a middle name. it is clearly a compound first name. 2601:19C:527F:A660:DF2:5F76:A560:FC6F ( talk) 22:19, 27 December 2022 (UTC)
