Ghmyrtle has raised the issue of whether the following belongs in the article is off topic.
The turmoil and conflict in Wales during the ten years of the Owain Glyndŵr rebellion did not directly affect Monmouth Castle as it was a stronghold of the region and lesser targets presented themselves more readily to essentially a guerilla army. However other local towns, settlements and castles were directly attacked with Grosmont and Abergavenny being razed and Crickhowell Castle and Newport Castle successfully attacked.
I think part of whether this belongs here depends on the role of the article. It may be the case that readers will be intereseted in the local history, so finding out what happened in the area may be of interest although to be fair that may be better dealt with elsewhere. I think at the least it is worth mentioning that Monmouth Castle avoided attack because it was too strong as the revolt effected many castles and from the point of view of castle studies I would want to know whether Monmouth was invovled (not mentioning it could be seen as an oversight).
