List of mayors of San Diego → Mayor of San Diego – I am updating this page to be more of an actual article rather than just a list. The goal is for this page to emulate the example of the featured page Mayor of San Francisco. This would only end up replacing a redirect page, but for some reason it is coming up with the an error that states, "The page could not be moved: a page of that name already exists, or the name you have chosen is not valid." mcd51 ( talk) 17:58, 22 December 2012 (UTC)
The page now refers to Todd Gloria as the "interim mayor" of San Diego, but to others who've held exactly the same position, under the same circumstances, as "acting mayor." On one hand, Gloria refers to himself as "interim mayor" in a newspaper interview at http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2013/Aug/30/todd-gloria-interim-mayor. On the other hand, the city charter, without spelling out a title for a council president acting as mayor, refers to them as "acting" in Article XV, Chapter 265 (i), albeit in an indirect way and never refers to such a person as "interim." Given the charter's language, I think the best thing to do would be to refer to him as acting mayor, so we don't falsely distinguish between his position and that of prior acting mayors, and note in the associated footnote that he opted for the public style of "interim mayor," and perhaps even note that acting mayors are empowered by the charter to exercise some, but not all, of the powers granted to the mayor. User:mcd51, you are nominating this for featured article? Would the normal procedure be to get it to Good article first? -- MelanieN ( talk) 03:04, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
It strikes me in looking at this otherwise excellent article that there is no explanation for the numbering in the list - for the fact that "interim" or "acting" mayors are not tallied. Shouldn't that be explained somewhere? Or is it there and I missed it? Pinging @ Mcd51: for discussion. -- MelanieN ( talk) 21:31, 12 April 2016 (UTC)
