I reorganized the sections a bit to put the earlier (Hinayana) interpretations together (notably moving the 'Nirvana' section there) and bumped

Please note, using Thanissaro's translation in this topic allows bias to creep in, as he is a well-known exponent of the "original mind" thesis. In particular, the Pali passage from the Anguttara says pabhassaram idam bhikkhave cittam, "This mind is radiant", not "*the* mind is radiant" per Thanissaro. Pali lacks a definite article. Here, idam serves to particularize and specify the kind of mind that is under discussion, i.e. the mind that is "developed" in meditation aka jhana. It is not a general statement about the nature of the mind. This error has been refuted countless times, nevertheless, it persists.
