I'm going to have to go find a source to verify this and login under my actual username to put it into the article, but Lou Fine was famous as the guy who could get a smoother, narrower line using a brush than other artists could get using a crow quill pen. This is important, because when artists and draftsmen started talking about "fine lines" meaning smooth and narrow, they were talking about making a line like one of Lou Fine's lines. His name has become a word in English, and is usually used by people who have no idea where the word comes from. So think of him next time you're buying a "fine point" pen. — Preceding
