Okay, I've created this page under the name Judo techniques rather than Budo techniques in the interest of limiting it to the more formal forms, and have initially not made a distinction between competition techniques and others. Although I think a clarification of what techniques are allowed in competition and another article which inclues other budo such as jujutsu or karate would be good, my thinking that this is simpler. Ideally I think that every technique would include the English transliteration, Japanese characters, a literal translation and a short description. Unfortunately, I'm not qualified to do much of that, so thanks in advance to my fellow Wikipedians! - Rorybowman 16:37, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
This article classifies techniques as http://www.judoinfo.com does. But the following site, http://www.jitsu-club.co.uk/forum/jitsu_techniques.asp, shows further breakdown
nice work!

And another interesting classification page, http://www.jigorokano.it/Tecnica.html. [1]

I added Ne-waza to include Push Sweep. There may be a better heading than Ne-waza as it includes locks, chokes, and pins. Surely there is a Judo name for BJJ's Push Sweep, but for now I hope this addition of mine is apropriate for now. Or else should there be a different list?

Since this page consists solely of a list of techniques, shouldn't it be moved to a page entitled "List of judo techniques" per WP:LIST? Bradford44 15:51, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
There's this in the article: "Te Guruma would be hand wheel... and it is a legitimate technique in Judo, Iain Hughes, Spitfire Judo Club, UK"
I think his intent was to contribute, but it seems more a discussion than useful info. I'm changing it back. Petruza ( talk) 21:12, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
I've started a new thread at Talk:List of Kodokan judo techniques#List of judo techniques as it's not clear to me on why we have two lists. -- Marc Kupper| talk 07:50, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Unfortunately this article contains almost no explanatory commentary, and could be improved by adding some. In particular, what is the implication of something being an "unrecognized technique" (for which various examples are given throughout the article)? If a technique is unrecognized, does that mean it's illegal? If not illegal, is any scoring that results from the move not counted? What if someone uses an unrecognized technique that causes the opponent to tap out--does the use of that technique invalidate the score? Loraof ( talk) 23:15, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
