Like all Hot 100 charts, it is based on a combination of sales and airplay just extrapolated to the entire decade. I guess the Billboard Hot 100 decade chart isn't a reliable enough source, yet you provide no sources to confirm the number-one songs of each year and that seems to be OK. --

Here is my proposal. I suggest we add a column "year". And each year ("2000", "2001") would be a row spanned across several rows. It would look like this. What do you think ?
