Alderney has always, along with Sark, been part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey since the two Bailiwicks were created in Elizabethan times.
The '1948 Agreement' did not remove Alderney's sovereignty, but simply gave the Guernsey legislature powers over transferred services (e.g. health, income tax). — Preceding
