Described pronunciation seems different to that from http://www.thefreedictionary.com/knout ?

While similar to a cat-o-nine tails, a knout is not the same thing. Similar to how a rapier and a basket-hilted sword share many common qualities and usages, both the knout and the cat-o-nine tails have many similarities yet are most definitely different items.
