I was undecided as to which name to choose. My main source was Grove V, which calls him Karol, so I stuck with that. Thinking about it later, I was wondering whether New Grove still calls him Karol, because that sounds more like a Polish name (cf. Karol Szymanowski). Halir was "Bohemian", which means either Czech or Slovak. In Czech the usual spelling is Karel - see [1], and Karel (given name), but in Slovak it's Karol, so he may have been Slovak rather than Czech. On the other hand, googling "Karel Halir Sibelius" gets a lot more hits than "Karol Halir Sibelius". However, because he lived and worked mainly in Germany, he became Carl (or sometimes Karl), and he's most often referred to by one of these spellings, so maybe one of them should prevail. Any thoughts? -- JackofOz ( talk) 19:09, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
