The introductory statement, plus the "Prefatory Note" and the initial section specifically entitled "Background" all address the context of the article, especially its theoretical orientation with respect to generative grammars (Transformational Grammar in particular). As the article proceeds links to other grammars and additional contextual details are added. I fail to see how it can be criticized from this point of few.
