Elorza is an American politician currently serving as the 38th mayor of Providence, Rhode Island [1] Elorza, a former housing court judge and law professor, defeated past mayor Buddy Cianci in the 2014 Providence mayoral election. [2] Elorza's parents migrated to Providence, Rhode Islandfrom Guatemala where Jorge was born. [3] A product of the Providence public school system, Elorza graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a bachelor's degree and worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers [3] before going on attend Harvard Law School where he received his juris doctorate. [4] After graduation from Harvard Law school, he worked for Rhode Island Legal Services, where he provided free counseling to families living in slum conditions or facing eviction. In 2005, he joined the faculty at Roger Williams Law School, specializing in housing law and teaching classes in Property, Advanced Constitutional Law, and Housing Law & Policy. [4] During his time at Roger Williams Law School, Mayor Elorza received tenure, litigated public interest cases in Federal and State courts, and co-founded the Latino Policy Institute, a think-tank dedicated to research on Latino and minority communities in Rhode Island. [5] In 2010, then Mayor David Cicilline appointed Elorza to the Providence Housing Court, with Elorza taking the place of Angel Taveras. The above two paragraphs should be reflected in his biography as his wikipedia page used to read that he was born in new york and did not include that he grew up in Providence, this is incorrect. He was born, raised and grew up in Rhode Island.

In 2005, he joined the faculty at Roger Williams Law School, specializing in housing law and teaching classes in Property, Advanced Constitutional Law, and Housing Law & Policy.
