"John Smoltz, the Slovenian, was an All-State baseball and basketball at Waverly High School in Lansing, Michigan before the Detroit Tigers drafted him in the 22nd round of the 1985 amateur draft." I am not aware of Smoltz being a "Slovenian," so I removed that pending verification. Am I missing something, or is that detail either wrong or out of place in Smoltz's high school career? Phoenixrod 09:43, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
Does Smoltz have a change? I remember it being featured in a few video games, and I could swear that I'd see him throw it a few times a game. With a four-pitch fastball his main pitch, though, I may have just been seeing a straight fastball that he took a little off of. Anyone know for sure?
Can someone help by uploading and changing the picture to Smoltz in an Atlanta Braves uniform? It's a travesty seeing him in a Red Sox uni on his official Wikipedia page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.157.26.162 ( talk) 16:22, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
HOLY COW, MAN -- Look, I HATE the Braves but there's no pic of Smoltzy in a Braves uni?!?!? Seriously?!?!?!?! Two pics -- Red Sox and Cardinals. That ain't right. Smoltzy just might have his # retired by the Braves and maybe he'll even be a Hall of Famer . . . 99% of his accomplishments on the mound was for the who? Who now? What team? THE BRAVES. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.211.97.154 ( talk) 01:14, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
Well, having no picture is better than having a red sox picture. If anyone can find a good Braves picture, please upload it. —Preceding

although I resent your, *ahem*, anger over the Red Sox picture, I also don't want to remember his time with the team (quite disastrous!), and anyway, he's one of the greatest--if not THE greatest--Atlanta Braves of all time. I, as a Red Sox fan, am a distant fan of the Braves as well. -- Boston Burkenation ( talk) 23:25, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

There seems to be little too much info about Doyle Alexander and the Tigers. It doesn't really seem to fit in an entry about John Smoltz. Also, none of the information is cited. copana2002 10:41, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Smoltz is apparently of Italian descent. He's included in a new Italian Baseball Heroes trading card set, sponsored by the Order Sons of Italy in America and produced by the National Ethnic Heritage Foundation. Is this worthy of inclusion somewhere in the article? MichaelProcton ( talk) 00:41, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

I don't know how to add a new citation without screwing up all the others, so I'll just leave this here for someone else. John Smoltz was born in Detroit MI (the page currently says Warren MI but I cannot see any source for that online). Here is a source for Detroit though, from the hall of fame: https://baseballhall.org/hall-of-famers/smoltz-john — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.203.75.67 ( talk) 20:42, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
