Sti`ll waiting on a verifiable source regarding his death before updating this article. -- DizFreak talk Contributions 00:19, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
This guy was on prime time television for almost 10 years. If he had actually died it would not be so difficult to find sources.-- 71.79.2.95 ( talk) 03:08, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Neither of those sources should be reliable enough to cite him as dead. -- 71.79.2.95 ( talk) 04:16, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
http://www.wcbi.com/article.php?subaction=showfull&id=1294780306&archive=&start_from=&ucat=2& "Family members say he died from heart related problems". That should be enough confirmation. Can we edit his article now? Eseress ( talk) 05:04, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Another citable source including a quote from his father. Think we can call this one official now. http://www.wcbi.com/article.php?subaction=showfull&id=1294780306&archive=&start_from=&ucat=2&
I don't understand what's going on. Why isn't a more credible source noting his passing? According to our links his family has even supposedly confirmed his death, yet nobody is discussing this. I find this incredibly odd. If anything, I think we should at least mention in his article rumors of death. Eseress ( talk) 06:24, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
WCBI website includes a video interviewing his father in the left scroll bar. http://www.wcbi.com/ I'm not sure what else you'd want. I used to run John's website - that's definitely his father Jim and as horrible as this is for me and those who knew him, he's really gone. This is silly...John's been out of the spotlight for a few years, so Hollywood isn't that interested...doesn't mean it didn't happen. Jim should know - John was his son long before he was the public's actor. Just update it and move on. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.71.195.236 ( talk) 09:06, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Would the editors please consider allowing the addition of http://www.payitforwardinmemoryofjohndye.net/ to external links? If they would look, they would see that Mr. Dye's family is involved with the site which features information about his life and impact. Thank you. Seraph724 ( talk) 12:08, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Does anyone know where the source about John Dye playing the trombone in his school's band program came from?
MikaelaArsenault ( talk) 15:50, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
If you want to know what John Dye died of, look up Chris Burrous. Same death. "Poppers" is what these people use. Meth is inside. Look closely at his pic here. That was the dead giveaway. I mean it coudn't be more obvious than that! Then I saw the city where he died "San Francisco". What exactly do you think he was doing there?! Again, look up Chris Burrous. Not that complicated. Let's just say that Johnny Boy wasn't the little angel he portrayed himself as. He concealed it well in the show, he wasn't concealing it in his candid pix. It leaked. Some reports claim that he was married to an "Elizabeth Updike" except she doesn't exist. Fabricated by him, her last name is a clue. And that should be your last cue to get a clue. You're welcome. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 104.234.90.216 ( talk) 18:19, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
It appears fan(s) of John Dye keep editing the Death section to remove unflattering information about him and his family. But here are the facts: the family did initially report to multiple news organizations that he died of some kind of heart issue (their statements ranged from " heart attack" to " congestive heart failure".) Whether premature speculation on their part or an outright lie to avoid tarnishing his legacy, his death was ultimately determined to be a "drug related" death, specifically from "acute methamphetamine intoxication".
Dye's death certificate has been on Wikimedia Commons for years, and is readily verifiable with the California Department of Public Health—reference state file number 3052011005848. I'm sorry if you can't deal with the thought of John Dye being a drug user, but Wikipedia is not the place to try to sanitize someone's image. 2601:3CA:204:F860:E0FC:C616:379A:72C1 ( talk) 08:13, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
