John Caldwell (Michigan representative) was one of the Social sciences and society good articles, but it has been removed from the list. There are suggestions below for improving the article to meet the
good article criteria. Once these issues have been addressed, the article can be
renominated. Editors may also seek a reassessment of the decision if they believe there was a mistake.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ...that John Caldwell was originally given the name at birth of George Washington Caldwell because he was born on the Fourth of July?

Y History in the last 10 years consists of nothing other than the primary author adding lots of content, and other people performing minor spelling/grammar/code fixes.
Prose / MoS
Ref check
Y Ref 1, Bowen 685
Covers birth date, his parents, immigration to America, siblings, their move to Michigan... it does cover moving to Hillsdale County in 1856 indirectly (when he was aged 6). I don't see anything about the Erie Canal - was this from another source? I also see nothing about logging wheels or timber representatives.
Covers his 120-acre parcels. Covers him and his brother being the first settlers.
Covers Martha's date of death, as well as his diversified system of farming.
Y Ref 2, Bingham 140
Covers his various positions.
Y Ref 3, Michigan 1899
Covers father's farm in summers, school in winters. Says that he went north to the woods for four years at age 17, but article (cited to Ref 3) says he went north for 2 years at age 19?
Covers Republicanness and election to state House.
Covers county treasurerness, and clearing 80 acres of timber.
Y Ref 4, USSC 1917
Covers him going to Missaukee County in 1869.
Yg Ref 5, Cadillac Evening News
My kung-fu is weak and I can't figure out how to get this one. Have you got a link? I'll AGF on it anyway if all it's doing is giving a specific date for the marriage and backing up something also backed up by Ref 6 and 4.
Y Ref 6, Journal-Miner
Doesn't have a whole lot about what he did in his capacity as an agent of Mitchell's company. Also, if this happened in 1901, shouldn't it be further down?
Lol, I should have finished this earlier, subsequent edits have changed the ref order. Will re-arrange... jp×g20:55, 12 July 2021 (UTC)reply
Y Ref 11, Mecosta County
Checks out fine.
Y Ref 12, Bowen 686
Backs up death date and also him being a member of Missaukee Grange.
Y Ref 13, Pensioners 1883
Checks out fine.
Y Ref 14, Lansing State Journal 1950
Checks out fine.
Y Ref 15, House 1899 p5
Checks out fine.
Y Ref 16, House 1897 p3-5
Checks out fine.
Y Ref 17, Michigan Manual 1900
Checks out fine.
Yg Ref 18, Escanaba Tribune 1900
Will AGF for offline source.
Y Ref 19, Missaukee County 1900
Checks out.
? Ref 20, Attorney General 1911
Checks out, but it seems like he asked the attorney general about a specific ordinance passed by one township, not a state law about hunting deer; should be edited to reflect that. jp×g21:36, 12 July 2021 (UTC)reply

I see that there's a new image, which looks a little better, but it still seems to be substantially edited. Have you got the full original scanned image of the record out of the file you've got? If all you've got to go from is the PDF (which I recall you mentioning), you can e-mail it to me and I'll extract it. jp×g14:58, 24 July 2021 (UTC)reply

JPxG: I've emailed to you the scan as the town clerk gave to me on July 15, 2021. It is exactly as I show in the article. The scanned images have not been substantially edited or altered and are true and accurate scans. I have a vested interest in getting this exactly correct to show that John Caldwell's given name at birth was "George Washington" and that his father's name is John Caldwell and that his mother's name is Jane Caldwell. That is the best I can do, unless you are willing to send me an email and I will forward back to you the communications email from the town clerk verifying these are true scans. I will include the PDF she sent me, which is what I have already sent to you. You can then email the town clerk (or call her) and verify that these are true scans. --

JPxG: The town clerk of Ridgeway (where the 1849 birth record of John Caldwell is located) sent me this message on July 15, I am sorry to say that the only information that I have is the exact same image that you already have. I see no alterations in the original. If there is anything else I can help you with please let me know. If you will send me an email, then I can forward this thread to you (with her contact information) and you can contact her by phone or email to verify these scans are the true image as I am showing in the article. I have a vested interest in this to get it exactly correct and it is very important to me to show this correctly as I am showing in the article. JPxG: The original 1849 black & white scan image I provided has been verified by the town clerk of Ridgeway as being correct of the information they have in their records. Since you are not willing to contact the town clerk and are not willing to accept the images I have provided, then I would recommend you just fail the nomination. Apparently you want an image of your choice that has not verified by the town clerk of Ridgeway as true and correct of the information they have. That would not give the correct information and would be a distortion of facts. I highly recommend that you promote the article to Good Article status, since it has met all the requirements, or just fail the nomination. Then I can resubmit it GAN and get an experienced reviewer and they will just promote the article to Good Article status since it meets all the requirements. I have had 175 of my articles promoted to Good Article status and
I have created over 500 Did You Know articles with images. I know what a correct image is and the 1849 original image I provided as John Caldwell's birth record is correct. It has even been verified by the town clerk of Ridgeway as being correct and having the same information they have in their records. Please promote the article to Good Article status and follow up with the necessary final steps -OR- fail the nomination, so I can resubmit GAN and get an experienced reviewer and they then will promote the article to Good Article status. I have had 22 of my GAN articles promoted to Good Article status this month and am aiming for 30 -> so I will not be playing around with this one any longer, as it now has become a waiste of time. I want to do something constructive with my time, like getting more Good Articles. It so happens that during last year's GAN drive that happened in two months (that had 31 days each) I got 62 articles promoted to Good Article status. So, as you can see I made on average one Good Article per day. All these articles were reviewed by several different top reviewers that have much experience. All the top reviewers in the GAN arena know me and the quality of articles I produce. All I have to do is get one of these to review this article and it will be promoted to Good Article status. See you later, I'm off to get more Good Articles. Thanks for your time.--
