The wording is insensitive also in the Dutch Wikipedia entry. The woman in question -Helena Correa - was enslaved and was passed to Valckenburgh by her previous owner when he purchased the Elmina castle. She was therefore an enslaved woman with no agency and this was not a ‘relationship’ it was rape. The article itself does not acknowledge the extent of Valckenburghs trading of enslaved people. The original source material is over 20 years old and has not aged well.
