I looked this up on Wikipedia because I thought the form of the challenge might have originated with the Gatorade shower, a celebratory practical joke played on the coach of a winning sports team, members of which sneak up behind him and empty over his head the contents of one of the ubiquitous dispensers of ice-chilled Gatorade (or whatever beverage had been hydrating them during the game); but I see no mention of this decades-old tradition in this article. I found this a bit surprising, considering that the disease for which it is meant to raise awareness is famously known to have affected sports figure Lou Gehrig. Hi Wikipedia,
I've been working on some additions for this page with User:emilyhacker. We have an ongoing draft in my sandbox here: /info/en/?search=User:Hsdouglas/sandbox. Curious to note that all these months later the article still refers to the Ice Bucket Challenge in the present tense - for example "The i.b.c. ... **IS** is an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on someone's head" rather than "**WAS** an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on someone's head", "Many people participate" rather than " ...participated", "The challenge encourages" rather than "encouraged" etc etc.
Are there actually people out there still doing the Ice Bucket Challenge in June 2015?

"Christian evangelist Anita Fuentes describe the Ice Bucket Challenge as a "Illuminati-Satanic ritual" on a YouTube video."
Now, I'm probably five times more critical of evangelists, Christian or X, than the next guy, but regardless of any personal belief I feel that the statement above is absolutely pointless.
Whenever any statement is given on Wikipedia that does not directly relate to and enhance the topic being discussed, I believe it is most appropriate to ask yourself: does this matter in any way? The answer I get when I ask myself that question for that statement is "Absolutely not".
So I'm gonna go ahead and delete that statement, located under the heading "Importance of the Cause".

So far. 3/4 of the way through the month, the picture is that no major ALS association is running a formal 2016 IBC campaign, but plenty of individuals and small groups (schools, sports clubs etc) are giving "Round Three" a go, including one Australian member of Parliament. One interesting aspect is that some people are giving it a new twist by using all manner of messy substitutes for the ice cubes including sliced fuit/vegetables and whipped cream and not letting the victim know what substance until the bucket is poured "the "What's In Your Bucket?" variant on the challenge).
What's really needed is for a mainstream source to do a roundup of the entire picture, but none seems to be forthcoming (presumably because they DON'T want it to go viral again lest they themselves get nominated ... )

Okay, we are now at the end of August. Here is my draft section for the 2016 challenge:
"2016" will be a section subheader and a "2015" subheader will be added for all the existing content for the Revival. The "Revival" header will be pluralised to read "Revivals" (and the first sentence of the article will go back to being present tense.)
I also propose to add the following sentence to the final paragraph of the article introduction: "Accordingly, people performed the challenge again in summer 2016" possibly with refs from the above paragraph. In future years, this can be amended to "2016 and 2017", "2016-2018" etc and eventually "each year from 2016 onwards" or somesuch.
I am going to post a message about this to User:Meatsgains's talk page, inviting feedback below. If I get no reply from Meatgains or anyone else by this time next week, I shall assume everyone is happy with it and post it to the article. 62.190.148.115 ( talk) 10:26, 1 September 2016 (UTC)

The edits made by the students are relevant to the topic and remain neutral in tone. The citations led to web sources, most often online news articles, that could be considered credible on Wikipedia. Adding a section about the criticism of the Ice Bucket Challenge regarding the water waste was a smart decision, in my opinion, as a large part of the virality of the challenge did deal with the backlash from environmentalist perspectives.
