When? Where?
Thomas J. Watson Research Center says IBM started a lab in 1946 at W116 St, which is in the Inner City but not Downtown by New York City geographic conventions. With a hasty Google check, I find no hint at a Downtown location. My guess is, Morningside Heights is the place, but surely we have no basis for saying anything positive on that question. Seems to me, pending evidence, we should at least omit the word "downtown".
