There appears to be conflicting information out there regarding the Korean Hwang surname origin. A Chinese "Huang" genealogist cites a Qin nobleman, Huang Jingxiu (styled Huang Ci, 71st generation) fled China to Korea (Xin Luo) after advocating for the oppressed commoner. According to him, he is the progenitor of the surname in Korea. Korean sources cite Hwang Rak (pinyin: Huang Luo), a Chinese official who was en route to Vietnam on a diplomatic mission and shipwrecked in Korea, as the progenitor of the name. I think it would be worthwhile to explore and find the actual origin of the surname with published sources jhuang82 ( talk) 09:16, 25 April 2011 (EST)
