I broke the history section out of the USMA main page because it had become too long for the main article. Admittedly, it needs much more work to stand alone as I've neglected it. Why no mention? This predated West point by a year and was in fact the first formal basic training center in the United States military. It would be prudent to say that with the success drilling enlisted rank and file at Legion Ville for the newly-created Legion of the United States, Washington would have been much more inclined to support the establishment of this academy for the formal training of an officer corp.
